I figured it's about time that I wrote an actual blog, instead of doing some sort of list or survey type thing.
School started on the 18th, and I've been crazy busy since then. I'm taking 17 units (although I might go down to 15 because I'm considering switching from Spanish 2 to Spanish 2A), so you can imagine how much reading I've been doing! I'm taking Spanish, International Relations (a Poli Sci class), English 46B (one of the 3 classes in the British Lit series for English majors), Genetics (stupid IGETC), and Literary Publishing. The last class is essentially putting together the school lit magazine, which is pretty exciting. I was hoping for an editor position, but who knows...I might wind up being a copyeditor since I'm such a stickler for spelling and grammar! (A little ironic, I know; I'm not exactly the most grammatically correct blogger.)
Speaking of lit magazine, I may start working on a 'creative non-fiction' piece to submit. I already have a pitch, so I should be starting it this week. Writing and journalism have always interested me, and while I don't plan to major in journalism, I wouldn't rule it out as a career if life led me in that direction. Law school is still my goal, but who knows...maybe I'll wind up like Megyn Kelly on Fox News!
Wow, what a perfect segway into the next thing I wanted to mention. I swear I didn't plan it that way, but I love how my thought process just sorted itself out. Anyways, I'm incredibly excited about Sen. McCain picking Gov. Palin as his running mate. She's smart, a strong leader, and a true conservative. Although she doesn't have too many years in politics under her belt, she has done far more during her years as mayor and governor than Sen. Obama has done as a senator! Her approval rating in her state of Alaska is around 80%, which is huge! Oh, and she's a pro-life feminist. And the mother of 5 children. As a conservative woman who has big career goals and the goal of starting a family, it's encouraging to see someone who was able to accomplish both. What a smart choice Sen. McCain made! I was originally planning to vote for him because it would be a vote against Sen. Obama, but now I'm voting McCain/Palin because I really want to see Palin in national public office! I'm hoping that McCain/Palin will win in November, and that Gov. Palin will one day be able to run for president with the VP experience under her belt.
In other news, I recently became the organizer of a Sunday morning knitting group! I sort of fell into the position (I won't bore you with the long details; besides, it involves some Ravelry gossip that I would rather not get into), but I love it so far. My knitting time has been drastically cut short since school started, so I really look forward to those couple hours of knitting/chatting/coffee every Sunday! We knit at a cafe on the SF Peninsula; leave me a comment if you would like more information.
I apologize for the text heavy blog. I'll try to post some knitting photos next time (if I ever get around to blogging again!)
